Abstract

The purpose of this research was to increasing the students’ writing ability in Junior High School PGRI01 Bandar Surabaya, Central Lampung. The researcher expects that Six Thinking HatsStrategycould help the students in learning process and be one of the strategies to increase the students’ writing ability.

In this research, the researcher conducted classroom action research (CAR) which was done in two cycles. Each cycle consist of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The subjects of this research was 30 students in seventhgraders of Junior High School PGRI01 Bandar Surabaya. In collecting data, the researcher used test (pre-test, post test I and post test 2), observation and documentation. The research was conducted collaboratively with the English teacher of Junior High School PGRI 01 Bandar Surabaya.

The result of this research shows that Six Thinking Hats Strategyhas positive result in increasing the students’ writing abilityof the seventh graders of Junior High School PGRI01 Bandar Surabaya. It can be proven by the students average score from pre test to post test. The average score in pre-test is51.63, post-test I is57 and become 66.5in post-test II. It means that the usingSix Thinking Hats Strategy can increasethe students’writing ability.
