Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze errors in the use of deixis in academic speaking texts in the class of SMKN 3 METRO. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. With data collection tools using observation and documentation. Meanwhile, the data sources of this research consist of two data sources, namely: primary data sources and secondary data sources. This research uses the analytical technique of Klaus Krippendoff.

The findings of this paper are, there are five types of deixis, such as: Discourse deixis is 57 (33%) errors, Person deixis is 51 (30%) errors, Spatial deixis is 32 (19%) errors, Temporal deixis is 21 (12%) errors and Social deixis 11 (6%) errors. The researcher found the dominant deixis error in academic speech texts, namely discourse deixis with 57 errors or 33% of the total errors. The conclusion of this research is to find out the students' deixis errors in their speaking texts to be used as a reference for improving students' deixis skills in class XI SMKN 3 METRO.
