Abstract

This study is about the analysis of derivational affixes in english translation of Surah As Sajdah by Muhammad Marmaduke Picthkall. This study aims to describe the process of derivational affixes and to find out the functions of
derivational affixes inenglish translation of Surah As Sajda by Muhammad Marmaduke Picthkall.
The descriptive qualitative method is used this study to investigate derivational affixes in english translation of Surah As Sajda by Muhammad Marmaduke Picthkall. The data of this study is the form of words which contain English affixes. The researcher acts as the key instrument human instrument. In this research, the researcher uses all of words that are attached prefix and suffix as the data. The data source is all the english translation of Surah As Sajda start from first verse until the last verse (1-30 verses), reading the entire data source cautiously, and collecting the data which contain derivational affixes. Then it is followed by identifying, classifying, and analyzing the data as the procedures of data analysis. At last, drawing the conclusion is also required.
The result of this study shows that derivational affixes are found in Muhammad Marmaduke Picthkall's translation of Surah As Sajda. There are two types of affix is used. They are prefix and suffix. There is no infix is used. Types of prefix which are found in-(1)(4,8%), re-(2)(9,7%), dis-(1)(4.8%). Meanwhile, suffixes which are found, they are are –ion (2)(9,7%), -er (4)(19%), -ance (1)(4,8%), -ful (3)(14%), -y (1)(4,8%), -ly (2)(9,7%), -ment (1)(4,8%), -ty (1)(4,8%), -ing (1)(4,8%). It shows that suffix -er (4)(19%), as derivational affixes which is the most frequently present. After that, the function of derivational affixes found in translation of Surah As Sajda by Muhammad Marmaduke Picthkall that are noun maker (11); (52,4%), adjective maker (7);(33,3%), verb maker (2);(9,5%), and adverb maker (1);(4,8%) . It shows that noun maker which is most frequently present with 52,4%.
