Abstract
This thesis discusses the research conducted by researchers regarding student perceptions of the media used by lecturers in speaking classes. This study aims to determine students' perceptions of the media used by lecturers in speaking classes in the English education department at IAIN Metro. It is hoped that through this research, both lecturers and students, especially in speaking classes, can make good use of the media.
This research is a descriptive qualitative research with data sources taken from interviews and documentation. The main data comes from the results of interviews and documentation of 6 respondents from students of the English Education Study Program at IAIN Metro. Researchers also use literature related to student perceptions of learning media to support the main data. Data validity assurance technique uses triangulation.
Based on the results of the data abstract obtained, it can be concluded that there are 2 media used by lecturers in speaking classes including Power Point and Youtube Videos. The results of further research are regarding student perceptions of the media used by lecturers. Students give good perceptions of the use of media used in speaking classes including media that are relevant to the material, the media are supported by teachers‘ ability, ease of use of media, students can improve vocabulary mastery, pronunciation, fluency, and comprehension in speaking.
