Abstract

This research was designed to analyze external conflict and the method through which it was contained in the coco movie. In this researchThe author attempted to clarify how the external and resolve the conflict developed.

The method that the researcher chooses to finish this research is qualitative descriptive research. Qualitative descriptive research is an interpretive strategy that aims to describe the problem and get a better understanding of the specific implications and practices of a social phenomenon via the subjective experiences of the participants, also to describe a population, situation or phenomenon accurately and systematically. To analyze and find out the type of external conflict, the researcher applies William Patrick Kanney theory.

The findings from the data analysis show that there are three types of external conflict in coco movie, namely: man versus man, man versus society and man versus nature. The majority of the tension in the film is between men with 80,30%. Then, efforts to solve the problems of the main character, namely sublimation, repression, denial and reaction.
