Abstract

This research was conducted in order to find out Code Switching used by Farah Quinn on her YouTube Channel. The objective of this research was to find out the Types and Function of code switching used by Farah Quinn on YouTube Channel, Those two objectives were analyzed by using Hoffman’s theory In this research, the researcher used qualitative research as the research method in this study. The data of this research were taken from script of videos Farah Quinn. The data collection of this study were observation and documentation. In analyzing and
interpreting the data, the researcher followed Miles and Huberman’s steps of data analysis, they were: 1) Data Reduction, 2) Data Display, 3) Data Verification/Conclusion. The researcher watched the videos and observed the data to find types and function used by Farah Quinn on YouTube Channel, and the last the researcher categorized the data into types and function of code switching. To obtain the data, the researcher made some notes of code switching used by Farah Quinn on YouTube Channel.
The result of the study show in Farah Quinn on YouTube Channel, there were three types code switching used. There were 51% Intra-Sentential code switching, 17%Inter-Sentential code switching, and 32% Tag Switching. The mostly types that the
Farah Quinn used was Intra-Sentential code switching. Then, there were seven function of code switching used. There were 67% Talking about particular topic, 10% Being emphatic about something(express solidarity), 12% Interjection, 2% Repetition, 10% Expressing group identity, Quoting somebody else and Intention of clarifying the speech content for interlocutor not found from utterances used by Farah Quinn on YouTube Channel.
