Abstract

The objectives of this research include are to analyze the kinds of intra- system shift in English-Indonesian subtitle translation of Freedom Writers movie and to analyze the use of intra-system shift in English-Indonesian subtitle translation of Freedom Writers movie. The researcher raised this research on the basis of the importance of using intra-system shift in translation because the right intra-system shift translation greatly affects the quality of the translation so that the translation results become easier to understand.

This research method is a qualitative research method is a qualitative research method by conducting an intra-system shift analysis on the Freedom Writers movie. Researcher examined several subtitles by carrying out data collection techniques through observation and documentation.

The results of research of research on the kinds of causes of intra-system shift include the use of the noun as a generic reference (25 %), the use of plural nouns after determiner words (75%). In this research there is no the difference in the concept of plurality in certain words. In addition the use of intra-system shift in the translation of the Freedom Writers movie consists of the use of the nouns as a generic reference and the use of plural nouns after determiner words.
