Abstract

This research intended to present that the speakingskill at the tenth grade students of SMA N 1 Trimurjo can be increased through applying Picture DescribingTechnique.The problem which had been identified was the students are not confident to speak in front of the class.

The type of this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR) which involved 22students in class XC and was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four phases : planning, acting, observing and reflecting. In order to get the get the accuracy in data collecting, the researcher used data collecting technique as test, observation, and documentation.

The result of this research shows that picture describing technique has positive role in increasing the speaking skill among the tenth grade students of the Senior High School 1 Trimurjo Central Lampung. It can be proved by the students’ average score from pre test post test. The average score inpre test was 62.72, in post test 1 was 68.40 and the post test 2 was 72.5. It can be inferred that picture describing technique can increase the descriptive speaking skill among the tenth grade students of the Senior High School 1 Trimurjo Central Lampung.
