Abstract

This research aims to know the influence of PQRST (Preview, Question, Read, State, Test) strategy in reading narrative text. The researcher tries to find out whether there is a positive and significant influence of the PQRST (preview,Question,Read,State,Test) strategy on students' reading skill at MAN 1 Metro.

This study applied quantitative methods with a pre-experiment design. The population the research are 343 of tenth grade students at MAN 1 Metro. The sample taken was class tenth 4, consisting of 34 students. Data collection techniques included tests, observations, and documentation, while data analysis techniques used normality tests followed by normalized hypothesis tests.

Based on the results of the study, it was known that the sig-2-tailed value is 0.000. It was clear that the probability, or sig > 0.05, means the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. This shows that there is a positive and significant influence between variable X and Y. With the application of the PQRST (Preview, Question, Read, State, Test) strategy, English teachers are expected to be able to integrate online and offline learning into the learning process because this strategy can help students access subject matter both inside and outside the classroom.

Keywords: narrative text, PQRST strategy , quantitative, reading skill.
