Abstract

This research discusses the improvement of students' vocabulary using Flashcards. This research aims to determine whether Flashcards can improve students' vocabulary mastery and to find out how much Flashcards can help students remember English vocabulary. This is based on the problem identification that students have difficulty understanding the meaning of English vocabulary, making it hard for them to remember the vocabulary.

This type of research is Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subject of this research is the students of class VII E at SMP Negeri 1 Kotagajah, consisting of 34 students. In data collecting, the researcher used a test consisting of a pre-test, post-test 1 in Cycle 1 and post-test 2 in Cycle II, along with observation field notes and documentation.

The results of this research show an improvement in students' English vocabulary mastery. This improvement can be seen from the average scores of students in the pre-test, post-test 1 and post-test 2. The improved from 56,67 in the pre-test to 70,55 in post-test 1 of cycle I and to 84,38 in post-test 2 of cycle II. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the improvement in students' vocabulary mastery through the use of Flashcards in class VII of SMP Negeri 1 Kotagajah was successful because the research criteria were well achieved. Flashcards are an effective learning media that can help improve the English Vocabulary mastery of class VII students SMP Negeri 1 Koatagajah.
