Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze the erros of using simple present tense in students' writing descriptive text and to find the reasons why the students make errors in their writing descriptive text.

The method used in this study was qualitative research. The types of this study belonged to case study. The subject of this study was students at eighth grade of MTs. Ma'arif NU 7 Purbolinggo Lampung Timur which is consisted of 28 as participants and 10 students as the sample. The data were collected through observation and documentation.

Finally, the result of data error analysis showed that students errors is used of nominal sentence and used of verbal sentece. The errors frequently appeared in student writing performance is nominal sentece. The total of errors were 26 items. There were 19 (73%) errors in nominal sentence and 7 items (27%) errors in used of verbal sentence.

The result of this reseacrh shows that the most errors that the students made are used of nominal sentence. Furthermore, based on students' questionnire sheets, the researcher summarized that the cause of errors which are made by the students' is lack of vocabulary and grammatical structure.
