Abstract

It has been known that language is system communication which uses by people of spoken or written words. Speaking is the one of skill which places in difficult area in teaching and learning process. It can be seen that students' difficulties found in teaching and learning speaking. The primary goal of this research is to analysis the students' speaking performance in State Islamic College Jurai Siwo Metro and to discover the difficulties in speaking subject of the students.

The kind of this research is qualitative. A qualitative research design was us.d in which the researcher collects the data in the form of words or pictures rather th in numbers. The design aimed to analyze their speaking performance based on the analytic speaking criteria. On the basis of an analysis, in depth interview, observation and documentation were conducted to validate the data. Inductive logic furthermcre was used to gather, group, select, and interpret the data. The population was all of the fourth semester students of English Department. The object of the study was ten (I0) students handed over through purposive sampling.

Based on the result of the research, it can be conclude that frequency of speaking performance showed that pronunciation was 18.51%, grammar accuracy was 20.42%, vocabulary was 22.68%, fluency was 19.17%, and interaction strateges was 19.17%. To sum up, there were still students' difficulties in the students' speaking performance in state Islamic college Jurai Siwo Metro. So, students have to learn more to solve their difficulties and improve their speaking performance.
