Abstract

The objective of this research is to know whether venn diagram strategy can improve the reading comprehension in teaching learning process. The subject of this research was twenty students of eleventh grade SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pekalongan of Lampung timur in the academic year 2018/2019. The this research was done in two cycles. Each cycle is consist of planning, action, observation, and reflection.

In collecting data, this research uses field note, documentation, test, and observation. The data collection methods in this research were test, documentation, field note and observation. The target of this research was 80% students got score > 65, and then it was compared between Cycle I and Cycle II.

The finding of this research is the cycle 1 the average of post-test is lower than Pre-test, and in the cycle 2 post-test show that there is an increase from posttest in the cycle 1. The average of post-test 2 is higher than post-test and pre-test 1. Cycle 1 the average of pre-test is 68 and the post-test is 54,25 and cycle 2 the average of post-test is 84. So there is progress 29.75 points. In the cycle 2 all of students get score >65, it is clear that based on the result pre-test and post-test, it can be said that venn diagram can improve students’ reading comprehension. By using venn diagram as strategy, the students are interested and motivated in following the class. So they enjoy doing the task. It also makes them easier in studying the material. Referring to the result of the students score above, it can be said that venn diagram can improve towards the students reading comprehension at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pekalongan in academic year 2018/2019.
