Abstract
This research is conducted on the basis of the result of observation of the usage conjunction device in writing narrative paragraph al the first grade Senior High because conjunction is the cohesive device that often used to express the relation between sentences in the narrative paragraph. The major problem that found is most of the student do not know the kind of conjunction device. Based on the observation, it needs to be inspected what are the real problem happened in the real setting.
The characteristic of this research was descriptive qualitative. The data collecting method used observation and documentation. Furthermore, CresweU model namely gathering the data, grouping the data, selecting the data and interpretation was used to analyze the data. The data was gathered from the students of Senior High School 1 of Purbolinggo in the academic car 2013/2014. The researcher took I5 students from 35 students as her purposive sample.
The result of the research showed that kind of conjunction device found in writing narrative paragraph, namely (I) additive, (2) adversative, (3) causal, and (4) temporal. The result of analysis to illustrate the frequency commonly used of conjunction device in writing narrative paragraph in additive was I5 items (34.09%), adversative was 8 items (18.18%), causal was 8 items (20.45%). temporal 14 items (51.82%).
