Abstract
Speaking is one of the abilities which must be mastered by every students in learning English. The students who have the ability in English language must be able to use English language well in comunication. In fact, the students also were in the difficulty in communication, like retell of a story in study activity learning in the class. It was caused by the student inability to associate technique in increasing their speaking ability. Therefore, the writer used a storytelling technique to evercome the weakness. The writer tried to apply the story telling technique at the tenth graders of SMK YPI2 Way Jepara
The research was aimed the storytelling technique its influence in the students speaking ability at the tenth graders of SMK YPI 2 Way Jepara. In this research the writer gave pretest to know the students speaking ability in telling a story and post test to know the result of the students ability in speaking after giving the story telling technique.This research was a quantitative research. In collecting the data, the writer used test and documentation. The hypothesis was tasted by using t-test.
This research was conducted at SMK YPI 2 Way Jepara. The populations of this research were 188 students. Meanwhile, the total sample are 75 students, namely class AK' (41 students) as experimental class and class AK" (34 students) as control class.
From the result of research showed that the average score in experimental class is 65.48 while the average score in control class is 45.26. It was attained that 'observe is higher than tie = 6.39 > 1.990 at the significant level 5% and 6.39 > 2.638 at the significant level 1%, it means that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It proved that there is a positive and significant influence of using storytelling technique toward speaking ability at the tenth graders of SMK YPI2 Way Jepara.
