Abstract
English is the first foreign language for teaching learning in Indonesia. Improving English skill is the one of ways to prepare Indonesian people being ready to face the global world. Therefore in Indonesia, it is taught in formally at schools from Elementary School to University. They are obliged to achieve four skills: they are listening, speaking, reading and writing. Writing is necessary in our lifebecause it is a mean that is used to communicate someone expression, transmits the information, and connect to other people who read the writing products.
Technique is one way that is used by teacher to apply a method in teaching and learning process in order to make the students understand about the material. So, we are as the teacher should be able to help the students in comprehending the material by providing the appropriate technique in teaching and learning process. One of the techniques is Draw-Label-Caption (DLC) for the writing ability. The draw• label-caption is both a lesson plan and a pre-writing technique that can help students brainstorm before writing a fictional story or a personal narrative. The basic technique is that students draw a picture, then label everything in the picture, and then give an overall caption or summary of what is happening in the picture. So they can write descriptions ofeverything they have labeled and the action. And that gives them the beginning of a complete story before they even realize it.
This research is quantitative research design in true experimental research. This research was conducted at the eighth grade of State Junior High School IX Metro which divided in two classes. Those are class B as the experimental class and class D as the control class.
Moreover, to investigate whether there is a positive and significant influence of Draw-Label-Caption (DLC) technique toward the student's narrative paragraph writing ability, the writer analyzed the data by using ta formula,
Finally the data confirmed totsv is higher than tac (2.72 > t%we 2,010). Therefore, it can be inferred that there is significant influence of draw label caption (DLC) technique toward the student's narrative paragraph writing ability the eighth grade of State Junior High School IX Metro.
