Abstract

Writing has been assumed as one of the very important skills in English, Writing skill is considered as the most difficult skill for students especially in writing descriptive paragraph. Ihe students still make errors in their writing. Analyzing grammatical errors is very important to learn the kinds. the sourers. and the causes of the students' errors in writing so that the students'difficulties in teaching learning process could be identified. The main goal of this study is to describe the types and frequencies ol grammatical errors male by students in their writing descriptive paragraph based on Surface Strategy Taxonomy.

A qualitative research was used in this research. The subject of this research was 30 of the students at tie third semester of English Education Study Program of Srate Islamic College (STAIN) Jurai Siwo Metro The data were collected throngh observation and documentation. The analysis technique proposed by Creswell was used to analyze the data.

The result of the study shows :hat most of the students at the third semester of English Education Study Program of State Isiamic College (STAIN) Jurai siwo Metro committed four error types of Sface Strategy Taxonomy, The errors are divided into Omission, Addition, Misformation or Misosdering. The total errors made by students were 609 errors. It consists of 256 errors in omission or 42.03 %. 135 errors in addition or 22.17 %. I57 errors in misformation 25.78 %. and 54 errors in misordering or 8.87 %. The students made the most errors in omission. Based on this findings, the writer suggests that omission should be focused on teaching Siructure and Grammar.
