Abstract

Method was described as an overall plan for systematic presentation of language based upon a selected approach. In teaching learning process method had the important rule, especially in teaching foreign language. Because the method helped the teacher to deliver the materials clearly and the students could understand the lesson easily. Besides that, method would make the process of teaching and learning in the classroom effective, finally the purpose of the teacher and students could be achieved.

The researcher had outlined the problem in this research focused in the students' English learning achievement. The primary goal of this research was to know the students' English learning achievement by using Direct Method at the third grade of SDN 2 Kotagajah in academic year 2012/2013, that consist of 28 students. This research was classroom action research consisted of 4 steps namely, planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Test, observation, and documentation were used as the data collecting methods. This research was conducted through collaboration with an English teacher of SDN 2 Kotagajah.

Regarding to the research process, the researcher gave the pre-test to the students to know their English learning achievement. Then, the researcher did the treatment for the students. In addition, the change of students English learning achievement could be known through post-test that had been given in every cycle. The test consisted 20 items of multiple choices form. The result of the research illiustrated the average of the students English learning achievement in pre-test53.9 increase 59.5 in post-test I, the increasing score was 5.6 and 80.2 in post-test II, the
increasing was 20.7.

In summing up it could be stated that by using Direct Method, the students' English learning achievement at the third grade of SDN 2 Kotagajah in academic year 2012/2013 increased.
