Abstract

Writing is one of the vital aspects in language learning. By writing, some information and ideas can be shared by the student in the written text. Writing performance can help the students to think more logically and critically ard to illuminate their thoughts conspicuously. Indeed, one of the most avorite paragraphs which is made by students is argumentative paragraph. It is paragraph which is used in persuading and convincing which is functional in making the reader accept or reject argument from the author's view proportionally. This research is about students' argumentative writing especially the use of clausc markers which is functional in connecting some related clauses It plays an important role in developing the argumentative paragraph because It can make the writer's idea more clearly delivered in the paragraph. Thus, this research mainly analyzed the common error on the use of clause markers in students argumentative paragraph writing.

A qualitative research design was used to describe the use of clause markers in students' argumentative paragraph. On the basis of an analysis, depth interview, observation, and documentation were accompanied to validate the data. Inductive logic furthermore used by the writer for collecting, reducing. displaying. and verifying the data. The population was the students of the third semester in English Department of STAIN Jurai Siwo Metro in the academic years of 2015/2016. In this research, the subject was ten students in writing 4 subjects handed over through random sample considering that they got those lectures in the previous semester.

The research result shows that students made 53% errors in applying adverb clause markers. whereas. both noun clause markers and adjective clause markers errors are 23%. It can be assumed that adverb clause markers errors take the biggest number of common error on the use ofclause markers in writing argumentative paragraph.
