Abstract

The students difficulties in comprehending a passage caused by some factors such ratters as less/lack of skills in reading comprehension. Moreover, most students had less interest aand self motivation in reading English passage. Therefore, the students ought to pay attention more and study harder in learning English. To settle the problems, the teacher should have the interesting strategies one of them that was able to be applied namely Reciprocal Teaching SStrategy. Reciprocal Teaching Strategy itselfwas able to aid the students' improving their reading comprehension ability. Therefore, the researcher has a mind figuring out the influence of
'Reciprocal teaching Strategy to increase students reading comprehension ability at the eighth graders of SMP N 2 Punggur Central Lampung.

The research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). In this research used two cycles. 'They are including planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subject of this research was twenty eight eight graders students of SMP N 2 Punggur. In collectingdata, the researcher used the test, observation and documentation. The tests consist of pre-test and post test. The purpose of pre-test and post-test are to know how far the students' reading comprehension ability before and after being given the treatment.

The result of pre-test and post-test show that there is increase from the pre-test and post• test. The average score ofthe post-test is higher than pre-test. The average score of pre-test is 60, 71, then the average score of post-test I is 68, 93, and the average score of post-test 2 is 77, 5. So, there is progress from 60, 71 to 68, 93 to 77, 5. From pre-test to the post-test cycle I, there is increase for about 8, 22 points, and from the post-test cycle I to the pot-test cycle II, there is increase for about 8, 57 points. It is clear that by using Reciprocal Teaching Strategy as the strategy ofteaching, the students will be able to increase their reading comprehension ability.
