Abstract

Thepurpose of this research is to show that the use of Read, Ask, Put (RAP) Strategy can increase reading comprehension ability in descriptive text and learning activity among the eighth graders of MTs N 1 East Lampung. The condition which was researcher found among the eighth graders of MTs N 1 East Lampung where many students had the difficulties in English learning especially in reading comprehension. The students had the difficulties in finding main idea and detail information of the text, so it caused their result of learning is low. Hence, to increase reading comprehension ability, the researcher used RAP Strategy in learning process. RAP Strategy is one the effective and easy to be applied in teaching and learning process.

The kind of this research is classroom action research (CAR) which is conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. Objectof this research is the reading comprehensionability. In collecting the data, the researcher uses test, observation,anddocumentation.
This research is conducted with an English teacher of MTs N 1 East Lampungthat was Mrs. Laili Masithoh, S.Pd.I.

The result of this research showed that RAP Strategy had positive role in increasing the reading comprehension ability in descriptive text among the eighth graders ofMTs N 1 East Lampung. It can be proven by the students‘average score from pre test to post test. The average score in pre test was 52,8 and in post test was 65.3 became 76.9. It means that the use of RAP Strategy can increase reading comprehension ability in descriptive text.Keywords: RAP Strategy, Reading Comprehension Ability, Descriptive Text
