Abstract

In this research the writer has prior aim that is to know whether the use of interactive reading can increase the students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text. The object of this research is the students at the seventh graders of junior high school 7 of Metro in the academic year 2013/2014. Besides that, the writer wants to know whether the strategy able to make the students more active in English learning process especially in reading.

The model of this research is classroom action research. This research had been conducted in two cycles. In the first cycle had been conducted in three meetings and in the second cycle had been conducted for two meetings. In this research the students were given the pre test before doing the treatment and post test after doing the treatment. In this research the writer as a researcher who directly implemented interactive reading to the students. The writer helped by the teacher as a collaborator during conducted the research. Data collection techniques in this research are observation, field note, test, and documentation. The purpose of the pre test and the post test are to know the increasing before and after giving the treatment. This research is called success if 80% of the students get score more than 73 and the activeness more than 50%.

The research result of the cycle I showed that the activeness’ percentage of the students was 52.25 and in the cycle II was 87.7 whereas, the average score in the pre test was 60.7 or 7 students who complete, and for the post test I was 66.7 or 13 students who complete and for the post test II was 84 or 30 students who complete. This fact showed that the using of interactive reading in the learning English can increase the students reading comprehension in descriptive text especially the students of 7C junior high school 7 of Metro.
