Abstract
Clause is one of the materials structure and grammar, it can be defined as a part of sentence consist at least of a subject and a predicate, usually joined to the rest of that by a conjunction. Structure and grammar is complicated because it needs more signiticant for classifying and make the words to be a good and right sentence in English. Moreover, this performance is a base for the students to make an good English paper. The learning process of grammar in university or college needs more active and creative learning for increasing the students' performance. Song lyrics used in clause learning process, could make the students more creative by remembering clauses that they find in song lyrics. The lecturer could also know the increasing of students creativity toward their performance of making clause. Moreover, song lyrics could make the students to be writter, reader and good listener, and song lyrics could increasing the students perfomance of structure and grammar. The objective of this research is to know the influence of English song lyrics toward the students' performance of making clause at the second semester of English education program at State Islamic College Jurai Siwo Metro in the academic year 2010/2011. This research is true experiments where the writer uses two classes, one class as the experiment class and another as control class. This research held at (71) students of State Islamic College Jurai Siwo Metro of second semester in the academic year 2010/2011. The writer used test as data collection method and used t-test formula to analyze the data. From the data gained after the songs lyrics treatment in experimental class, the writer got data that t observed = (3.813) and t table = (1.990) in df 5%. It means that t observed is higher than t table. It can be inferred that the hypothesis is accepted. It means that there is a positive and significant influence of the song lyrics toward the students' performance of making clause.
