Abstract

In this research the researcher saw that many students could not comprehend the reading text. They still found some difficulties to identify some information and difficulties to locate some details or information of the text. The formulation in this research is there any positive and significant influence of WHQuestions technique toward the students' reding comprehension at the eighth graders of MTs N Metro Batanghari. The objective of this research is to know the influence of WH-Questions technique towards the students' reading comprehension at MTs N Metro Batanghari. The researcher used quantitative research. In this research used two classes, the first class as the experimental class which received the special treatment that is teaching reading using WH-Questions technique and second class as the control class which didn't received the special treatment. The sample of the research at the eighth graders of MTs N Metro Batanghari in academic year 2012/2013 in the class VIII C which consist of 33 students and the VIII D which consist of 34 students. So the researcher takes class VIII C as the control class and class VIII D as the experimental class. The result of the students' score before and after treatments implied that WH-Questions technique could improve the students' reading comprehension. From the computation, the highest scoreore of pretest (control class) was 66 and the lowest score was 30, the highest score of pretest (experimental class) was 65 and the lowest score was 30. The highest score of post-test (experimental class) was 93 and the lowest score was 40, The highest score of post-test (control class) was 76 and the lowest score was 30.The concludes that there is a significant improvement of students' reading comprehension ability after they were taught by using WH-Questions technique. From all of data analysis, it can be seen that: tobserved = 3, 50, while ttable = 1,990 (5%) 2,638 (1%) and 3,416 (0,1%). The data confirmed that tobserved is higher than t-table there pore it can inferred that Hi is accepted and Ho is rejected. It means that there is a positive and significant difference between experimental group and control group at the eighth grade students of MTs N Metro Batanghari in the academic year of 2012/2013.
