Abstract
English Grammar is one of the subjects in English instruction. To produce the good writing the students must understand sentence structure. Grammar studies how the word builds in the sentence. This is has the relationship in translation performance form English-Indonesia or Indonesia-English. Because of translation is one of the writing forms. This factor forced the students to learn English seriously. Theoretically the students who have mastered English grammar their translation performance is good too, but in fact there are many students who mastered in English grammar but don't perform well in translation. Those cases happen in other schools include in SMA Kosgoro. In this case the writer conducted a quantitative research aimed to investigate whether there is positive and significant between the student's English Grammar mastery and their translation performance in SMA Kosgoro Sekampung. The population of this research is all the students at the eleventh class consists 130 students. A sample of 42 students was established through the cluster sampling technique. There are two variables, they are: English Grammar Mastery as independent variable (X) and Translation performance as dependent variable (Y). The data collection method was test that consist two tests, multiple choice and translate paragraph. The multiple-choice test was used to measure the student's English mastery that consist 25 items. Every item is given score (4) for the correct answer and 0 for the wrong answer. The data was analyzed by using correlation product moment through SPSS. The result of the data illustrates that "r" observed is 0.706. Next, "" observed confirmed to "r" table of the significant level 5% = 0.393 and 1% = 0.304. Finally the data confirms “r” observed is higher than "r" table. Thus, it can be inferred that Ha is accepted. There is a positive and significant correlation between the student's English grammar mastery and translation performance in the eleventh graders in the academic years 2011. In addition the result of this research can be used by the teacher to increase the student's achievement through the learning process seriously.
