Abstract

The error in a target language especially in English is the case which is unavoidable. The error is necessary part of the learning process. The lecturers need to know what aspect they get difficulties, it is required to identify and explain difficulties faced by learners. This research aimed to find out and to describe the students' error in analyzing phrases in the sentences at the sixth semester at English Educational Study Program of State Islamic College of Jurai Siwo Metro toward 10 students. This research applied case study. The data collection methods applied was documentation and interview. Based on the result of analysis, the researcher found the percentage of the students' phrases error. The percentage of the students' errors in analyzing noun phrases is 76,9%. The percentage of the students' errors in analyzing verb phrases is 90,6%. The percentage of the students' errors in analyzing adjective phrases is 90%. The percentage of the students' errors in analyzing adverb phrases is 78,9%. The percentage of the students' errors in analyzing prepositional phrases is 97,1%. Based on the percentage of the students' phrases error, prepositional phrases have the big number of the students' errors in analyzing phrases in the sentences. The researcher also found the students' problems in analyzing phrases in the sentences: the students get difficulty in deciding every phrase in the sentences and their elements. They are confused to differ what phrases are in every sentence because the sentence is so long. In conclusion, the result of the research showed that there were many students' errors in analyzing phrases in the sentences. Those can be the sources to find out the better appropriate way to increase the students' comprehension in analyzing phrases in the sentences.
