Abstract

The objective, of this research is to know whether the pictures can increase the students' learning English. The object of this research was 33 students of eight (B) SMP N 3 Batanghari in the academic year 2011 / 2012. The action research was done in two cycle. Each cycle is done in threе meetings, each cycle consisted of Planning, Action, Observation, and Reflection. In collection data, the researcher used test, they were Pre-Test and PostTest, Documentation, Field Note. The purpose of Pre-Test and Post-Test are to know the students' learning motivation by using picture before and after being given the treatment. In this research, students did Pre-Test before having treatment and after that they should do the Post-Test cycle 1 and cycle 2. From the analysis in Pre-Tst and Post-Test cycie i, there was an increasing from the students result score. It is proved from their score 53,48 become 59,09. In the second cycle 2, but most of them had improved learning ability, it was proved from their result score from Post-Test cycle 1 59,09 become 70,15 at Post-Test cycle 2. It is clear, that based on the result Pre-Test and Post-Test, a can be said that picture has positive increase in learning motivation. By using picture as media, the students are interested and motivated in following the class. So they enjoy doing the task. It also makes them easier in studying the material.
