Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the use of cooperative learning in teaching narrative text writing ability at the eleventh graders of Vocational High School Muhammadiyah 1 Metro. Cooperative Learning is student study together with their members of group. The learner can as a resourcer for the others, through peer teaching they can share, explain, and revise in writing. The research type is qualitative in the form of field qualitative. The data collecting methods used observation, interview and documentation. The researcher analyzed 45 narrative writing worksheet that consist of nine groups. These research participants are nine students. The researcher found many students' error in verb, and to-be. The researcher interviewed 9 participants. Most of them have the similar answer in every question. Some of them admit that they are interested in cooperative writing activity, but the students' difficulties in cooperative writing were: lack of the frequency of writing English and vocabularies, understanding of verb and to-be in simple past tense, finding the ideas and exploring them, and also to be solid team. The result of the research shows that there were many errors on the students narrative compositions, it was caused the cooperative writing activity did not seriously. Those can be the source to find out a more appropriate technique or approach to lighten up the writing's quality of the students.
