Abstract

In all languages under the sun, especially English, grammar is really required to structure the language in the purpose of making effective communication, both in real conversation and in written communication. Furthermore, tenses are part of English grammar. It can be inferred that the tenses play important rule to make the effective communication. Afterwards, the researcher conducted a classroom action research to improve the quality of process and result; and to solve problems of learning activity in the classroom. In addition, matching pairs is one of the best ways to make teaching learning process more dynamic and enjoyable and to make students more active and independent. This research was conducted to the tenth grade students of Islamic Senior High School of Raudhotul Jannah Sidokerto. In addition, the school is located at Sidokerto village, Bumiratu Nuban Sub-District, Center Lampung District. The researcher implements the matching pairs to increase the students' present continuous tense. In this research, the researcher uses documentation, tests and observation to gather the data. Then, this research was held in two cycles. Each cycle consists of a series of steps namely planning, acting, observing and reflection. Furthermore, the students were tested twice, before and after implementing the technique. The result of cycle I of the meeting I and II designated that the target of the research has not achieved yet. It is caused by the students getting 65 less than 80%.Meanwhile, the result of cycle II designated more than 80% of the students got scores upper the Minimum Passing Grade (KKM). It means that the target has already achieved. Then, it can be seen on the average score of Pre-Test was 44.5 and of PostTest on cycle I was 68.3and on cycle II was 85.4. The researcher concludes that there is positive and significant increasing of the students' present continuous tense through matching pairs.
