Abstract

The story, especially the short story, has all of the structural elements, and simple to be read. The short story includes character, plot, setting, conflict, and point of view. Expository text comes in a variety of different organizational pattern of the texts. Several texts is written by easy language and interesting content of the text. It makes the student familiar with the structure of the text, which is helping the students understand more easily and sharpen of reading comprehension. This research is quantitative research. The objective of this present research is to investigate whether there is correlation between the use of Short Story and the Students' Reading Comprehension at the Eighth Graders of SMP Ma'arif 1 Seputih Raman in the Academic Year of 2012/2013. The subject in this present research were 30 students at the Eighth Graders. To determine the sample applied Random sampling. In this research used test as instrument. To analyze the data applied Pearson Product Moment. Finally, the data indicates that r observed = 0,548 and r table == 0, 374 in df 5%. Therefore, it can be concluded that r observed is higher than r table. It can be inferred that the Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. On the other hand, there is a positive and significant correlation between the use of short story and the students' reading comprehension at the eighth graders of SMP Ma'arif 1 Seputih Raman in the Academic Year of 2012/2013.
