Abstract
Reading is the one of important aspect in English learning. There are several things that must be understood in reading, there are pronunciation, understanding the content of reading text, vocabulary, structure and grammar. Because of it, it is needed the technique in English learning. Technique is one of the keys for success. Therefore, if we want to succeed in English learning are advised to choose a good and appropriate technique, so the students will enjoy in reading comprehension learning. Many students dislike reading comprehension learning, because it needs patient and perseverance in understanding every word or sentence. Many techniques are used in reading comprehension, one of the technique is guessing word technique. The guessing word technique that has similar meaning. In SMAN 2 Sekampung, especially in the class XI, most of the students have difficulties in reading comprehension, it can be seen on the test result, most of the students did not get standard determined score (KKM) yet. This makes the researcher interested in using guessing word technique toward reading comprehension, because the technique was not implemented at the school. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is the influence of using guessing word technique toward reading comprehension at eleventh grade students of SMAN 2 Sekampung. The population in this study is the XI class, this is experiment research, there are two classes XI IPA 2 as experiment class consist of 26 students are given treatment and XI IPA 2 as control class consist of 25 students are not given treatment. To prove whether there is a significant of the influence guessing word technique toward reading comprehension, the researcher use T-test. Finally, the data prove that the T-observation > T-tables, 2,923>2,0105. It can be seen that there is a significant of the influence guessing word technique toward reading comprehension at the eleventh grade students of SMAN 2 Sekampung.
