Abstract
The objective of this research was to know whether Think Pair Share (TPS) strategy can increase the students reading performance. The subject of this research was the students of class eighth of Junior High School 10 Metro. The research used the classroom action research which was done in 2 cycles. Every cycle consists of 4 steps: planning, action, observation, and reflection or evaluation. In collecting data, the researcher used observation, test, documentation, to analyze the data, the researcher used the percentage formula, the average, and the increasing.
The objective of this research is to investigate whether the use Think Pair Share (TPS) Strategy to increase the students' reading performance at eighth graders of SMP Negeri 10 Metro. The subject of the research were VIIIa students in the academic year of 2012/2013. In this research, the researcher did Classroom Action Research is portrayed a cyclical spiral process involving steps of planning, acting. observing, and reflecting. The research was conducting through collaborative with an English teacher of SMP Negeri 10 Metro. The researcher calculated the average score of pre-test and post-test. Furthermore, to know the last result, the researcher compered pre-test and the last post-test, then matched the last score to KKM (Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal ≥70)
In this research, the students did pre-test before having the treatment, than they should do the post-test cycle 1, cycle 2. From the analysis in pre-test and post-test cycle 1, there was an improving from the students' result score. It was proved from their average score 57, 03 became 66, 40 at the first cycle, the researcher found the students' problem was in finding the meaning of the text.
In the second cycle, a few of the students' still had some problem in finding the meaning of the text, and saying their idea, but must of them had improved their reading performance. It was proving from their result score in post-test of cycle 1 (average 66, 40) became (average 72, 19) at post-test of cycle 2. It means that the use of Think Pair Share Strategy can increase the students' reading performance
