Abstract
This study aims to improve students by utilizing authentic material as from as posters as learning media. This study was conducted in Junior High School 7 Metro with the aim of answering the low reading comprehension of students. This study used the Classroom Action Research (PTK) method, which was carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consists of four stages, namely planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data collection techniques included tests, observation, documentation, and field notes, which all contributed to a thorough evaluation of the effectiveness of the research.
The results showed a significant improvement in students' reading comprehension. In cycle I, students' average score was 60.5 with a passing percentage of 47.6%. These initial results showed that despite some progress, students still faced challenges in meeting the minimum competency standards. However, in cycle II, student performance improved greatly, with the average score increasing to 75.29 and the pass percentage increasing to 76.47%. This improvement signaled that the use of authentic materials in the form of posters as a learning tool had a major impact on improving students' reading comprehension.
Based on these findings, the researcher concluded that the use of authentic materials in the form of posters is an effective learning media to improve students' reading comprehension. Authentic materials in the form of this Poster, which is designed attractively and informatively, can stimulate interest in learning and help students to absorb information more easily. In addition, authentic materials in the form of posters also encourage students' active participation in class through discussion and presentation activities. As a result, students become more motivated and engaged in the learning process, which ultimately contributes to improving their academic performance. This research shows that the use of authentic materials as visual media can be a powerful strategy to create an interactive and meaningful learning environment.
