Abstract
This study was motivated by parental intervention in children's households which still often occurs in the Raman Aji Village community. Interventions include things like livelihood and parenting patterns, and cause differences in attitudes between generations. Generation X tends to be obedient because of politeness values, while the millennial generation is more independent and open to expressing opinions. This difference is also seen in parenting styles, where the baby boomer generationis authoritative, generation X is more flexible, and the millennial generation begins to reject the dominance of the extended family culture due to the influence of modernization and changes in the times.
This study aims to: 1) explain the response of generation X and millennials to parental authority in children's households in Raman Aji Village. 2) To analyze the sociological review of families on the response of generation X and millennials to parental involvement in children's households in Raman Aji Village. This type of research is field research. While the nature of the research is descriptive. Data collection was carried out by interviewing 16 informants consisting of the baby boomer generation, generation X and millennials. The data findings are described descriptively and analyzed using inductive thinking. The results of the study show that: 1) Generation X and Millennials respond to parental involvement in children's households differently, which is influenced by the form of parental involvement and the style of authority applied. Generation X more often experiences authoritative parental involvement, tends to be coercive on the grounds of experience, so that children feel they must obey in order to respect their parents. Conversely, the Millennial Generation is more receptive to advice that is emotional support without coercion, so that they are more independent, open to discussion, and tend to limit parental interference in order to maintain privacy. 2) Viewed from the perspective of family sociology, the difference in response between Generation X and Millennials in Raman Aji Village reflects changes in family values, from an authoritarian extended family pattern to a more independent nuclear family. Modernization, education, and media have encouraged the younger generation, especially the millennial generation, to be more open and not always follow their parents' mindset, so that the family is now a space for adapting new values according to the times.
