Abstract
This study aims to determine the correlation between the students' reading habits and reading skills in the tenth grade of SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Metro. This study is conducted based on the consideration of the problems found by researcher, namely the low reading skills of students. Therefore, the researcher finds the relationship between reading habits and reading skills.
This research used quantitative methods with a correlational research approach. Data were collected from 15 students of the tenth grade through questionnaires, tests, and documentation to obtain relevant and in-depth information about the variables studied by the use of statitical computation of ANNOVA and product moment test.
The result of the study shows that there is a strong, positive, and statistically significant correlation between students’ reading habits and their reading skill. This is indicated by ( ( r = 0.65 ), ( p = 0.008 )). The p-value of 0.008 (<0.05) confirms that the correlation is statistically significant. This indicates that students who engage in regular and diverse reading activities tend to achieve higher reading skill.
