Abstract

Character education is a crucial aspect in shaping students’ personalities, particularly in instilling the values of tolerance and peace in the midst of social diversity. Issues observed in school environments indicate the persistence of intolerant attitudes and a lack of awareness regarding the importance of living harmoniously. Therefore, strategic efforts are required from all school stakeholders, including through collaborative efforts between homeroom teachers and Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers. This study aims to describe the forms of cooperation between homeroom teachers and PAI teachers in enhancing the values of tolerance and peace among students at SDN Gunung Terang, Tulang Bawang Barat Regency. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The data analysis process involved data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The validity of the data was tested using source and technique triangulation. The research subjects included homeroom teachers, PAI teachers, the principal, and students.

The results indicate that the forms of cooperation include: (1) joint lesson planning, (2) collaborative implementation of activities such as religious events and social service programs, (3) habituation of character values (tolerance and peace), and (4) teachers serving as role models for students at school. This collaboration has contributed to the development of students' attitudes of tolerance and peacefulness, although challenges remain, such as limited coordination time and suboptimal documentation of collaborative activities. This study recommends increasing the intensity and quality of teacher collaboration, as well as involving parents in a more comprehensive and sustainable character education program.
