Abstract
Translation is one of essential subject in English educational study program. Through translation, the students can get the information written in English. Four basic skill in English, listening, speaking, reading and writing need translation as media to transfer the message from source language to the target language. That's why the writer became interested to take translation as variable of her research.
This research was aimed at finding out the difficulties in translation among the students who took Translation II course at STAIN Jurai Siwo in the academic year of2010/2011. Qualitative descriptive is research method that used in this research. The writer chose 5 students of the fifth semester as the purposive samples. The data were taken from interviewed, observation and documentation. Content analysis is used toanalyze the data.
Considering pre survey result, most of the students gain difficulties in translating text. Translation was difficult in several aspects. The writer analyzed it, to know the specific aspects of their difficulties.
Firstly, the writer observed the class of translation course to know the real condition. Then, the writer chose 5 students who got good score, middle score and bad score. They were interviewed by the writer to investigate what the aspects of difficulties in translating were. The last, the writer got documentation of final examination of translation II course. The main data was Indonesian-English translation. It was analyzed by analysis content. There were four specific aspects. They are grammar, vocabulary, spelling and semantic.
Moreover, the result of analysis illustrated that the difficulty in grammar was 33%, the difficulty in vocabulary using was 58%, the difficulty in spelling was 3% and the difficulty in semantic was 6%. So the most difficult was in using vocabulary.
