Abstract

This study aims to explore the understanding, practices, and challenges faced by Islamic Micro,Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in implementing financial moderation from the perspective of Islamic Economics. The approach used is qualitative with a narrative study design, which allows the researcher to delve deeply into the life experiences and personal reflections of the business actors. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving several Islamic MSME actors in Metro City, Lampung. The findings reveal that the participants possess a basic understanding of Islamic financial values such as qana’ah (contentment), amanah (trustworthiness), and barakah (blessing), although they do not explicitly use the term “financial moderation.” In practice, they avoid riba (usury), apply simple bookkeeping, and allocate part of their profits for social purposes. However, the application of these values is not without challenges, including low Islamic financial literacy, economic pressures, and limited access to Sharia-based financing. Some participants demonstrated spiritual transformation that strengthened their commitment to the principles of financial moderation. This study concludes that financial moderation in the perspective of Islamic economics is not merely a normative concept but can be contextually applied in the practices of Islamic MSMEs. These findings are relevant to the development of Islamic financial literacy and the strengthening of a sustainable Islamic economic ecosystem.
