Abstract

Speaking skill is one of four basic language skills that must be mastered by the students. It is the skills of the students when they are able making sounds, words, phrases, and discource forms that characterize any language so that created the interactive of communication. Morever, students are often ignored to mastering this skills. It caused by several problems, such as: the students are shy and afraid to speak English in the class , students are Jack speaking skills, Students are not interested in speaking material, and etc. Therefore, to increase their speaking skills, the researcher used storytelling technique in learning process.

This research was aimed to know the level of speaking skills and to finding out the increasing speaking skills using Devil's Advocate Method in the second semester of English Education Program in STAIN Jurai Siwo Metro in the academic year 2014-2015.

The average result score of pre-test and post-test shows that there is progressing score. The average score at pre-test = 49.44, and in post-test I = 65.83, it was increase 16.39 point. And then, the average score at post-test II = 73.05. It was increase 7.22 point better than post-test I. While, the percentages of the student's pass at pre-test= 22.22%of total students, and at post-test I= 50 %, and then, at posMest 11 = 83.33 % students who are able passed the exam. Based on the result above, It can be said that using Devil's Advocate Method can increase speaking skills. This technique makes the students are interested and motivated in the class. So that, they are confidence speak English inthe class.
