Abstract

Writing as one of four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) must be mastered by the students. It is often ignored, this may be doing to a number of factors, such as time consuming of correcting, low motivation, limited time to study writing and lack of teaching technique used. These factors make the English teacher mostly neglect to teach writing.

The objectives of this research were the total population in this research was 80 students who are divided into 3 classes. So that the research takes on the sample I class consist 30 students have established use to cluster sampling technique. Instrument in this research used test (pre-test and post- test).To analyzed the data, the research was used the formula Chi-Quadrant.

After analyzing the data writer found the result of data analysis X bar=17, 59 > 5, 991 .in 0,05 significance or 17,59 > 9,210 in 0,01 significance. The result of the study was shown in the following conclusions it can be seen that frequency distribution pre-test were: 10% of 3 student's 94-80 in high category, and then 20% of 6 student's 79-65 in fair category, after that 70% of 21 the student's 64-50 in category low. It means that the student's writing low category.

The frequency distributions at the result of post-test were: 50% of 15 student's 94-80 in high category, and then 30% of 9 student's 79-65 in fair category, after that 20% of 6 the student's 64-50 in category low. Show that there is influence from the pre-test and post-test. It is clear that brainstorming strategy will be able to increase the students writing descriptive paragraph.

According the result of data analysis, the researcher knows that: "Xbar"=17,59 and "Xtable =5,991 in 0,05 or 9,210 in 0,01. It means that "Xbar is higher than "X'table. Therefore, it can be inferred that Hi is accepted and Ho is rejected. It means there is any positive and significant influence of brainstorming strategy toward students' writing descriptive paragraph among the eighth graders ofjunior high school at Muhammadiyah I Purbolinggo.
