Abstract

To most people, speaking is the most difficult part in learning a foreign language, even many students feel hesitate to speak because they are afraid or the students feel really shy about talking in front of other student. Therefore if the students do not learn how to speak in the language classroom they may soon get boring and lost interested in learning foreign language. One way to improve the students speaking skills is the students have to be more active than the teacher and the students also have to be confident. it can be tried through socio drama method. Socio
drama is a way of simulating what happen in life, in order to explore social issues, develop greater understanding between group and individuals, solve the problem and make decisions.

The objective of this research were to know whether socio drama can improve the students speaking skills the Eleven grader of SMK Darul A'mal Metro in The Academic Year of 2012/2013, To see the quantitative data (students score of test) was used to know students performance in speaking skill the researcher used assessment of oral test.

This research applied an experimental method. It aims to find out whether by using socio drama method improve the students speaking skills. This research involved one group of students with giving pre-test, giving treatment, and giving pos-test design namely quasi experiment

Based on the finding and discussion of the research, it can be concluded that the use of the socio drama method in teaching speaking skill improves students' achievement at the eleventh year students of SMK Darul A'mal Metro in the of 2012/2013 academic years. It is proved by the t-test value of students' achievement that is 9,01 which are greater than t table are 2,03. So 2,03 < 9,01. It means that there was a significant difference before and after using socio drama method.
