Abstract

The problem of this research was to know whether the Grammar Translation Method can increase the students' mastery in learning plural noun and to know whether Grammar Translation Method can increase learning process to interest. The subject of this research was 12 students of four the grades SD N 1 Kedaton Satu in the academic 2011/2012. The action research was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle was conducted in two meetings. Each cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The research was conducted collaborative process with English teacher of SD N 1 Kedaton Satu.

In collecting data, the researcher used test, namely pre-test and post-test, observation, and interview. The purposes of pre-test and post-test were to know how far the students had mastery plural noun before and after being given the treatment.

The average result score of pre-test and post-test shows that there was increased score. The average score at pre-test was 48.3, and in post-test I was 71.25, it was increase 22.95 point. Then, the average score at post-test II was 80.4. It was increase 13.9 point better than post-test I. While, the percentages of the student's pass at pretest was 25% of total students, and at post-test I was 91.7%, and then, at post-test II was 100 %. Based on the result above, it can be inferred that Grammar Translation Method can increase students' plural noun mastery. This method makes the students were interested and motivated in the class. So that, they felt enjoy to doing the task and it also makes them easier in studying the materials.
