Abstract

Reading comprehension is the activity of reader in process of reading to know the information that the writer write in the text and the reader understand well about the text. One of indicator of the reading comprehension is identify the main idea. Main idea is general statement of the writer that want to share to the reader. The goal of this reseach is to know the students' difficulties to identify the main idea in reading comprehension at the tenth graders of SMA N 1 Labuhan Ratu in the Academic Year of 2013/2014.

The research type is Qualitative in the form of field qualitative, and apply case study. The data collecting methods used interview and documentation. The research was concerning to ten students at the tenth grade class of SMA N 1 Labuhan Ratu in the Academic Year of 2013/2014 as the partisipants.

Finding research, the persentages of students'that be able to answer the questions were identify the topic was 36 %, state main idea was 16 %, implied main idea was 12 % and suporting details was 36 %. it can be concluded that students' difficulties to identify the main idea are students confiuse to differentiated the topic, state main idea, implied main idea, and supporting details. most of the students more difficult to identify implied main idea than the other, beside that the students have limited memorized of vocabulary so that the students unable to understand the imeaning well and the stndents did not understand the real ways to determine the main idea, the students have less in understanding meaning, and they lack vocabulary, its make the students difficult to identify main idea.
