Abstract

The main objective of English teaching according to school curriculum 2006 is to develop communicative language skill. One of them is Listening. Listening is one of the four skills that have an important role in mastering the target language.

It is the basis for the development of all other skill and the main channel through which the students'make initial contact with the target language and its culture. Unfortunately it has attracted the least attention. The objective of this research was to know whether totl physical response (TPR) method can increase listening ability, also to figure out the students' activities during learning proccess at the seventh graders of MT's Ma'arif 04 Rumbia. This research was conducted at MT's Ma'arif 04 Rumbia. The subject of the research was students' of VII A.

This research is Classroom action research (CAR). Each cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. This research shows the improvement on their listening score. It is supported by the increaseof their result from pre-test and post-test in each cycle. In cycle 1 of pre-test, the average score is 60.31 and post-test 1 score is 66.40 and post test 2 is 74.06. The increasing of procces can be seen from the result of observation sheet in each cycle. The increasing procces in cycle 1 and 2 is 8, 25%.

Referring to the result of the research above it can be concluded that the implementation of total physical response mthod for listening is effective to increasing listening ability among the seventh graders of MTs Ma'arif 04 Rumbia.
