The primary goal of this rescarch are to find out types of errors the students make in their descriptive writing especially singular and plural noun based on Surface Strategy Taxonomy and to find out proportions (frequency and percentage) of the students' error in their descriptive writing at the tenth grades at SMA N 1 Batanghari in academic year 2013/2014.

In this research, methodology of the research is descriptive qualitative research. The data were taken from the students' essay writing test. The sample was taken using purposive sampling technique. The researcher chose class X A as sample which consisted of 30students.

From the research, the researcher finds some errors in descriptive writing made by students. The whole errors from the students' writing are 92 errors. It is known that the highest frequency of errors based on Surface Strategy Taxonomy is omission errors (55.43%) followed by addition errors (28.26%), misformation errors (14.13%), and misordering errors (2.17%). In conclusion, the result of the research showed that there were many students' errors in descriptive writing.
