Abstract

Technique is one of the key to get success in teaching learning process. Because of that, choosing the suitable technique is very important. One of the techniques that can be used in English teaching learning is editing text technique that can improve the quality of students' writing ability.

Editing text technique was the technique that can improve the quality of writing in teaching learning, because in this technique, the students will be trained to find some errors in writing, that process is one of encouraging students to identify errors, and to develop a wide range of appropriate strategies for handling them. If the students often practicing to find and identify the errors in writing, re-write it well based on their editing, indirectly the students will avoid making the same error in their writing for the next.

At the second semester of English Department, State Islamic College Jurai Siwo Metro, almost the students get low score in mastering of descriptive paragraph writing. It can be seen from the result of their descriptive paragraph writing test. Based on this problem, the researcher was interested to apply the editing text technique in teaching descriptive paragraph because this technique had been used before yet.

The objective of the research to know whether the lectre uses the editing text technique can influence students' writing ability. The subjects of this research are 38 students of the second semester of State Islamic College Jurai Siwo Metro.

Characteristic of this research is quantitative research. The writer uses the test to know the students' descriptive paragraph writing ability. To investigate whether there is a significant influence of using editing text technique toward the students' writing ability at second semester of State Islamic College Jurai Siwo Metro; the researcher analyzed the data by using t-test formula.

Finally, the data confirmed that "t observed"is higher than "t tabie" = 4,74 > 2,02 It can be inferred that Ha is accepted. It means that there is any positive and significant influence of using editing text technique toward the students' writing ability at the second semester of State Islamic College Jurai Siwo Metro.
