Abstract

Reading is one of the important ways toimprove general language comprehension in English. It takes on a very significant role in teaching English as a foreign language. By reading,students can get the information and expand the knowledge. But, there were many studentswho still found difficulties in comprehend the text in reading.

The aim of this research was to implement the collaborative strategic readingtechnique and analyze its influence in the students’comprehending reading texts at the eighthgrade of Junior High School 2 Metro. This research usedpretest to know the students’ ability in understanding reading texts and posttest to know the result of the students’ abilityin reading text after giving the treatment that was collaborative strategic reading technique. This research was quantitative research which had been conducted in Junior High School 2 Metro at the class VIII H and followed by 30 students as the sample. The technique sampling was cluster random sampling.This research used a test tocollectthe data.This test was used to findout whether the collaborative strategic readingtechnique was suitable and could be used by the students in comprehending the reading texts. The analysis which was used by t-testformula.

Finally, the data indicates that tobserved =13.7451 was higher than ttable for the 5% level = 1.699and ttable for the 1% level = 2.462. Therefore, it can be concluded that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. It means that the collaborative strategic readingtechnique influences the students’ reading comprehension at the Eighthgrade of Junior High School 2 Metro in academic year 2016/2017.
