Abstract

Reading is one of four basic language skills that shouldbe mastered by the students. By reading, the students get much knowledge, information, and all they need inthe learning process.Moreover, students often ignored to mastering this skill. This conditionwhich wasresearcher foundat the tenth graders of MA An-Nur South Sumatera where many students haddifficulties in English learning especially in reading comprehension ability, so it caused their result of learning waslow. So that, to increase the students’ reading comprehension ability, the researcher usedVisualization Strategy learning process. Visualization Strategy is one of strategy that effective and easy to be applied in the teaching and learning process. The purpose of this researchwasto know whether the application of Visualization Strategy can increase the students’ reading comprehensionabilityin English learning.

The kind of this research wasclassroom action research (CAR) which was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. Object of this research was the students’ reading comprehension ability. In collecting the data, the researcher used test, observation, and documentation. This research was conducted with an English teacher of MA An-Nur South Sumatera that was Mr. Zainuri,M.Pd.I

The result of this research showed that Visualization Strategy had positive role in improving the reading comprehension ability at the tenth graders of An-Nur South Sumatera. It can be proved by the students’average score from pre test to post test. The average score in pre test was 55 and in post test was 67.5 became74.58. It means that the using of Visualization Strategy in reading especially narrative text can improve the students’ reading comprehension ability.(Keywords: classroom action research, Visualization Strategy,reading comprehension ability)
