Abstract

Approach is one way that is used by the teacher to apply a method inteaching and learning process in order to make the students understand about thematerials. So, as a teacher should be able to help the students to skill the materialby providing the appropriate approach in teaching and learning process. The mainpurpose of this research is to investigate the students’ writing skill of SMKWiratama Kotagajah which found in writing skill and to know what extend thetask based language teaching approach could help the students’ learning process.The writer tries to attest that task based language teaching approach can be one ofthe teaching approach to increase the students’ writing skill.

In this research is classroom action research (CAR) which is done in twocycles. Each cycle consist of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Thesubjects of this research is 19 students in XI PBS class of SMK WiratamaKotagajah. In collecting data, the researcher used test (pre-test, post test 1 andpost test 2), observation and documentation. The purpose of pre-test and post-testare to know how far the students’ writing skill before and after being given thetreatment. The research is conducted collaboratively with an English teacher ofSMK Wiratama Kotagajah.

The result of this research showed that task based language teachingapproach had positive role in increasing the writing skill at the eleventh graders ofSMK Wiratama Kotagajah. It can be proved by the students’average score frompre test to post test. The average score in pre test was 5.26 and in post test was68.42 became 84.21. It means that the implementation of task based languageteaching approach in writing can increasing the students’ writing skill.
