Abstract
In teaching learning process, the teacher has an important part to give motivation and contribution for the students success in learning. The teacher contribution for example is using storytelling technique in reading class. The purpose of this research is to know whether influence of using storytelling technique toward the students reading comprehension skill. The use of storytelling technique may contribute to give motivation to the students in order to be more interested in the subject of reading. Moreover, if students are interested in the subject of reading, the achivement of students' reading comprehension skill will improve.
The method used in this research is quantitative research that are analysed mathematically. The subject of this research was two groups, that consist of twenty seven students as control group and twenty seven students as experimental group. Both of groups were the students of the eighth graders of SMP N 3 Batanghari. In collecting data, the researcher used documentation and test. The test consisted pre test and post test.
The result of this research shows that there was any positive and significant influence of using storytelling technique toward students' reading comprehension skills at the eighth graders of SMP N 3 Batanghari. It can be known based on the data analysis that tobserved was higher than lable (lobserved is 5,672 and table is 1,706 and 2,479). It means that there was any positive and significant influence of using storytelling technique toward students' reading comprehension skills.
